The Rhythm of Tea

The Rhythm of Tea and Shanshui
Siam Rosewood Princess Jade

The work is inspired by the natural land art of the terraced agricultural fields in Yunyang of Yunnan Province. The ground terraces are shaped by curved lines in numerous layers. The footprint of the terraces is small but the terraces meander and stack vertically, creating a magical landscape.

Heaven and earth are endowed with the jade spirit, inlaid into symbiosis. The tea tray is made of a whole piece of princess jade and is hand-carved and polished for a magic look of nature, without needing extra embellishments. With unique craftsmanship of axe and chisel, the jade tea plate is given its essence. It is nothing more than an ordinary artifact, but under the peaceful daylight it releases a power touching the owner’s heart.

High quality tea accessories need to be constantly subtracted until reaching its substance, discarding unnecessary details to highlight the beauty of the object itself. With substantive materials and the application of simple lines, all superfluous aspects are eliminated, and what remains is the pure and serene. Such a design approach echoes the traditional minimalism aesthetic of "less is more, and more is confusing." Simplicity does not necessarily mean crude.
